Novelli has worked with Fonterra and Farm Source for many years and has been proud to produce some fantastic branded merchandise projects for them to help support the men and women driving the dairy industry.

Some of our most interesting and fulfilling projects are outlined below.

CALVING SEASON CARE PACK

PROJECT

 

Design a 'pick-me-up' gift to be given to dairy farmers to help them through the demanding calving season

WHAT WE DID

 

Novelli created a cake tin filled with goodies designed so that farmers had everything they needed to give themselves a relaxing morning tea

THE OPPORTUNITY

Calving season is not dubbed the ‘sleepless season’ for nothing. With farmers calving round the clock in cold, wet conditions, it’s a tough time with severe mental and physical health implications. The Fonterra Co-operative understood the importance of supporting farmers through this challenging time and wanted to send farmers a pick-me-up gift to thank the 10,000 dairy farmers for the key role they play in New Zealand’s dairy industry. 

INSIGHTS & DATA

Having something to look forward to has been scientifically proven to improve mental health outcomes. Fonterra considered this a crucial annual activation to build anticipation.

OUR SOLUTION


Novelli produced the
‘Fonterra Calving Pack’. The customised biscuit tin was filled with all the ingredients the farmers need for a home morning tea shout - delicious, thoughtful treats that make the farmers feel understood and cared for. 

The pack contained:

-A bespoke tin, crafted by Novelli

-A personalized 'Thank You' note from Fonterra

-An assortment of food items from Fonterra’s partners who utilize their dairy products

Novelli was commissioned to pull the elements together and distribute the completed packs nationwide.

OUTCOME

The packs were distributed to 7 locations nationwide and were personally hand delivered mid-calving season by Fonterra Farm Source reps.  What a brilliant, personal way to encourage farmers to take a moment, relax and feel the support of the collective behind them!

This project was so successful that Fonterra ran it for a number of years.

NOVABRIX MILKING TANKER & SHED

PROJECT

 

Design a toy item to be retailed through the Farm Source stores

WHAT WE DID

 

Novelli created a NovaBrix Milk Tanker 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Farm Source wanted to surprise and delight their future customers.  Our brief was to create a branded product to be retailed through their Farm Source stores.

INSIGHTS & DATA

With over 500 truck and trailer units, Fonterra is one of the biggest truck fleets in New Zealand and, therefore, their milking tankers are an iconic and recognisable brand asset.  

OUR SOLUTION

Novelli designed and produced the Fonterra Milk Tanker using our NovaBrix building blocks.  Kids (and any young-at-heart or passionate farmers) could now build their own mini version of these tankers.  

Connect the trailer to the truck to haul the milk back to your local factory to be turned into your favourite Fonterra products. 

The set contains 259 pieces and the made up tanker size is approximately 37L x 7H x 5W cm.

The Fonterra NovaBrix Toy Tanker is not just an ordinary toy, but a beautiful blend of innovation, sustainability, and playtime experience. It incorporates eco-friendly materials and carefully designed features to create a product that sparks curiosity and learning in children while promoting Fonterra's commitment to a greener future.

OUTCOME

Our proven methodology ensured the design of the Milk Tanker had the required functions and feel to inspire the future farmer and drive brand love for Farm Source.

The end result was a total success with this product being delivered directly to each Farm Source branch pre-Christmas and selling out as soon as they came on display.

The project was such a success that Fonterra followed it up with another NovaBrix product – the Fonterra Milking Shed.

2025 UPDATE

In 2025, Fonterra re-released the popular NovaBrix Fonterra Milk Tanker just before Christmas through their Farm Source stores.
The new sets come with a Fonterra tanker driver figurine and feature the new NovaBrix packaging design.

PRIMO SOCKS (FONTERRA BRANDS)

PROJECT

 

Design a GWP to drive sales of Primo flavoured milk

WHAT WE DID

 

Novelli produced two colourways of Primo-branded socks

THE OPPORTUNITY

Novelli was asked to develop a product to be used as a gift-with-purchase for a Primo flavoured milk promotion. 

INSIGHTS & DATA

When Novelli started brainstorming ideas for this promotion, it became clear that we needed to incorporate the iconic design of their Primo milk bottle into our product design. 

We considered several important factors when selecting the product, including cost-effectiveness and budget, universal appeal, the need for a lightweight item that is easy to distribute to participating retail outlets, and the potential for collectability to encourage repeat purchases.

OUR SOLUTION

Novelli produced two colourways of comfortable socks to be used at the GWP.

The tactile nature of socks - a daily reminder wrapped in comfort and utility - helps to keep the  brand top-of-mind without being intrusive.

The lively designs encircling the top of these socks are identifiable brand features linked to the Primo milk bottle packaging. The colours (yellow and pink) symbolize the flavoured milk flavours.

OUTCOME

- On-brand design looked effective on POS and was highly recognisable. 

- Their universal appeal ensures that they cater to a wide audience, increasing the likelihood of customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.

- Colourful, quirky, eye-catching design helped stand out at retail and keeps the brand visible on the street

- The socks were lightweight and easy to package, making them a cost-effective choice for shipping and distribution.
